Getting started

What Motivyn is and how to start

Recorded collector car sales from the major auction houses and marketplaces, updated nightly, with tools built on top. Here is where to begin.

Updated October 5, 2026

Motivyn records what collector cars actually sell for. Each night we read the results published by the major auction houses and marketplaces we track and add the new sales to the database. Each sale keeps its date, price, source and a link back to the venue, so you can check it yourself.

On top of that data sit the tools: a model page for each car we track, a valuation report, a side by side comparison, a watchlist that emails you when a car you care about sells, and a garage that tracks your own cars against the market.

The read layer is free

You do not need an account to search. Recorded sales, price charts, model pages and comparable sales are open to anyone, with a daily cap of 40 searches. The tools are what you pay for. The plans article has the detail.

Steps

  1. Type a car into the search box. Porsche 911, BMW M3, a year, a generation code. Pick a suggestion.
  2. Read the numbers above the results: average, median, how confident we are in them, and how many sales they rest on.
  3. Open the model page for a fuller picture. Every model we track has one, with a headline sentence, a price chart, recent sales and a table by model year. The model page article walks through it.
  4. Create a free account when you want to keep something: a price alert, a car in your garage, or a comparison.
  5. Start a Pro trial when you want the research tools: unlimited searches, the full list of comparable sales, exports and the Spread Index.

Where to find things

What Motivyn is not

Nothing here is an appraisal. Prices are the results each venue published, and asking prices are what the seller listed. Use the numbers to inform a decision, not to make it for you.
